Two years later, The Tsunami’s destruction still lingers…
Operation USA continues to successfully support income regeneration and revitalization for men and women who were widowed in the disaster. Along Aceh’s west coast, Operation USA is supporting the reconstruction of a rural maternity health post which will restore vital maternal child health care services to those more remote communities. Read about women who are still facing uncertainty over when and where they will receive new housing.

Operation USA Shipments: Mexico
Chihuahua, Mexico
Operation USA, in partnership with AltaMed Health Services, a nonprofit health corporation in Los Angeles, provided two 27-foot trailers of medical equipment in a cross-border shipment to the Mexican state of Chihuahua to replace old surgical, neonatal and examination equipment at the 30-bed El Hospital Guadalupe y Calvo that serves a town of 8,000 people in the extreme southern and mountainous region, with a total population of 49,000, mostly indigenous Tarahumara.
Local trucks carried additional clinical supplies and equipment on a 30-mile/four hour trip to a remote health clinic in the community of Atascaderos (pop. 1,200) and to an isolated health post even higher in the mountains.
A growing elderly population, a steep rise in HIV/AIDS cases and increasing violence from narcotraffickers, on top of already high levels of malnutrition, respiratory and intestinal diseases, have put great pressure on the healthcare system of northern Mexico.
Operation USA hopes to further improve medical facilities in this rugged area.
