Brother's Brother Foundation

Operation USA’s international and domestic projects are primarily supported by generous in-kind donations from American corporations. Non-profit organizations often share resources with one another to diversify their product donation programs.  Operation USA shares such a relationship with Pittsburgh-based Brother’s Brother Foundation.

The Brother’s Brother Foundation was founded in 1958 by anesthesiologist Robert Andrew Hingson, best known for inventing the "jet" injector, a tool that has enabled efficient, mass "needle-less" inoculations worldwide. The Foundation has consistently been a provider of high-priority medications and new medical books to Operation USA’s domestic and international projects. Serving 121 countries in its forty-nine years, Brother’s Brother Foundation has provided its partners with medical, pharmaceutical, hygiene and educational materials, including 58 million books.

Brother’s Brother Foundation has provided Operation USA with millions of dollars worth of antibiotics and other medications over the last twenty years for our emergency airlifts, most recently responding to earthquakes, tsunamis and civil conflicts in Lebanon, Pakistan, Indonesia, Sri Lanka and Iran.

When Hurricanes Katrina and Rita devastated the U.S. Gulf States, Brother’s Brother Foundation donated and shipped hundreds of thousands of doses of antibiotics to Operation USA-supported nonprofit clinics in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama. This month, $2.2 million in medications will be shipped to twenty partner health facilities that continue to serve evacuees still struggling with the effects of the disaster.

Operation USA wishes to thank Brother’s Brother Foundation, its President & CEO, Luke Hingson, son of its founder, and its dedicated staff, especially Shawna Szabo, Medical Program Coordinator, for the invaluable support we have received for our shared commitment to serve victims of disasters, conflicts and chronic poverty in the U.S. and beyond our borders.
