Banda Aceh, Indonesia

Walk through parts of Aceh today and the scars from the devastating Asian Tsunami that killed 128,870 people are still visible. The coastal landscape is dotted with broken concrete foundations; a reminder of the 141,000 houses that were swept away in minutes leaving more than 500,000 people homeless.

Yogyakarta, Indonesia

On May 27, 2006, the ancient city of Yogyakarta, on the island of Java, was struck by a 6.3 magnitude earthquake in the early hours of the morning. Operation USA responded promptly to this disaster and we are currently rebuilding two health clinics that were completely destroyed in the worst hit district of Bantul through our partner on the ground, Australian Aid International.
