Soccer uniforms and
equipment arrive in Morocco |
Operation USA coordinated the donation of 38,000 soccer jerseys and pants, plus soccer balls and other equipment from Rosa Cursage, President of American Soccer Company, Inc./SCORE, with transportation underwritten by the Grey Family Foundation. Below is a "thank you" letter from Nancy Riley, wife of the U.S. Ambassador, Thomas Riley, in response to this donation. |
THANK YOU! SHOKRAN!
OH!! OH!! OH!! I don't even know how to begin to thank you!! I am really at a loss for words! Your incredibly generous gift of a gazillion shirts, shorts, bags, balls, etc. has arrived and has quite overwhelmed us all! The timing could not have been more perfect....WORLD CUP FEVER has gripped Morocco! This gift is so wonderful and is so appreciated. I have taken some pictures or our sorting it out. The uniforms are being stored at a Palace of a friend of mine...yes, literally a palace! The Palais Tazi was the palace of the Grand Vizier of Morocco, Haj Omar Tazi. His wife, my friend's grandmother, still lives there. They let us use a room to store the goods!
The uniforms will be given to "street" teams in Casablanca, Rabat, Marrakech, Kenitra, Fes, and other towns, and will also be passed out to rural areas. Nezha Bedouane and Hicham El Guerrouj (he won 2 gold medals at the last Olympics, she is a world champion and an Olympic bronze medal winner ) are working with the distribution to youth sports groups in the countryside. A big "caravan" to the High Atlas Mountains is taking some prostheses to some of the poorest people of Morocco...and we are taking American Soccer uniforms!!!!!!!!!
That is just the beginning...
THANK YOU, thank you for this FUN, FUN, FUN gift to make to the Moroccan youth. I promise to take tons of pictures and send them to you. You probably can begin to imagine what this means to a really poor child...but just times that by 100 and you will really understand what it means!!
Com muito amor, and so much gratitude to all of you,
Nancy Riley
