COMMUNAL CHICKEN, RABBIT & SHEEP RAISING PROJECTS

OBJECTIVE:
To provide a area for rabbit and sheep raising and a chicken coop for chickens that will produce eggs and meat for the school lunch program through the children’s cafeteria and the rest provides a small income for the community group.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Renovating an old building for use as a working chicken coop including painting, installing chicken wire, providing medicines for the chickens and installing of an electric generator for warmth. Also included is the construction of areas for rabbit and sheep rearing projects.

PARTNERS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Community: Provide the labor for the renovation and get training from a chicken specialist to ensure the health of the chickens. Organize the sharing of the chickens between the families who pay back the loan of the chickens in meat and eggs.
Operation USA: Funding for the project.

RISKS:
Foreseen: Drought, which would cause community to eat all the chickens; animal health problems.
Unforeseen: Stressed chickens and Chicken sickness.

RESULTS:
Planned: Provide a safe place for the community group to raise chickens for eggs and meat, rabbits and sheep.
Unplanned: The meat from the rabbits, sheep and chickens and eggs from the chickens provide nutritional lunches for the children which resulted in improved health especially the reduction of runny noses and common colds.
