| When Operation USA responded to Hurricane Mitch in November 1998, like our response to the South Asia Tsunami of December 2004, it was immediately apparent that we would have to make a long-term commitment to those affected by the devastation.
Operation USA adopted the village of Santa Rosa, Nicaragua which, over the years, has been transformed from a disaster site to a healthy, productive, self-sustaining community. The "NICA Book" covers this effort and its progress and Operation USA is now using this model to assist the village of Kalladi, Sri Lanka recover and regain its livelihood after the devastation of the December 2004 tsunami. These village projects are 2 of Operation USA's largest efforts in our 27-year history, with Santa Rosa completed and Kalladi nearing its completion.
