Santa Rosa villager leaving the fields after working on irrigation system for village.

IRRIGATION

COST:
$1,000.00

#BENEFICIARIES:
Twenty (20) Families

TRAINING:
Yes

OBJECTIVE:
To expand the current land and irrigation system to reach further fields to accommodate new families.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The village of Santa Rosa owns more land than they are currently using for agriculture. As their children grow up and create their own families, more land needs to be irrigated in the lower region of the village to provide space for new crops. These hoses make this land able to be cultivated for these new families. The new families are given land loans that are determined by the size of the families and their ability to cultivate and work the land.

PARTNERS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Community: Install the hoses, divide up the land to be cultivated and organize the land loans.
Operation USA: Provide funding for irrigation project.

RISKS:
Foreseen: Drought; needing more and more irrigation.
Unforeseen: none

RESULTS:
Planned: Provide more cultivatable land.
Unplanned: New families are cultivating cash crops, which have a higher market value.
