Operation USA's Continued Committment To Others

One of Operation USA's greatest attributes in the world of humanitarian work
throughout the years has been our sincere committment to the communities and
people we help in the event of a disaster. Not only are we there in the immediate
aftermath of such events but, more often than not, after all others have moved on,
Operation USA remains, ensuring that those affected by the disaster have the best
of all possible opportunities to recover and rebuild their lives.

Below is an example of just one of our many ongoing committments to people
around the world. Stay with us throughout 2008 as we continue to make a
difference for communities worldwide.

The Gulf Coast

Life in Post-Katrina New Orleans has not been easy for anyone. After scores of
photo ops and hundreds of broken promises, the Ninth Ward, a bellwether for
the city's recovery, remains a devastated wasteland. Mile after mile of destroyed
neighborhoods and flood-ravaged homes stand as visual indictments against the
lack of leadership and concern that has, after more than two years, left this most
unique of American cities still on her knees.

While these past two years have been difficult for everyone, recovery has been
particularly painful for the city's children. The storms and their aftermath have stripped
New Orleans’ children of so much that was familiar, of what was held dear, and what gave
their lives stability. Social networks of family and community, of school and home, have been
redefined or broken, leaving the children too often anchorless and struggling. They are surrounded
by poverty, by rising crime and violence and by an ever-present uncertainty that hangs over every
aspect of their young lives. Yet,remarkably, these children find the strength to persevere. They are
surviving, but to flourish, they need our help.

Of critical necessity are interventions designed to help the city’s children learn to better
cope with the many challenges that lie ahead. Our local partners are implementing programs
created to respond to these and to the many other important health issues, but in order to succeed,
they need our continued support. At this crucial juncture, Operation USA is proud to stand by our
partners, by the people of New Orleans, and by all those who have been left behind by the storms.
We hope you will stand with us.
