OPERATION USA TO AID HURRICANE SANDY RELIEF EFFORTS IN CUBA AND HAITI
LOS ANGELES, CA (October 27, 2012)—Los Angeles-based International relief agency Operation USA announced today that it will provide emergency aid to Cuba and Haiti in the wake of Hurricane Sandy.
While Jamaica, Cuba and the Bahamas took direct hits from the storm, the majority of deaths and most extensive damage was in impoverished Haiti, where it has rained almost non-stop since Tuesday. The storm hit eastern Cuba as a Category 2 hurricane early Thursday. The storm is on course to hit large parts of Eastern United States next week.
Operation USA will focus its efforts in Cuba on providing access to safe water, alongside support for long-time hospital and clinic partners. Operation USA will focus relief efforts in Haiti in the city of Jacmel—where the agency rebuilt a large public school in partnership with Honeywell, which opened in 2011. Operation USA staff in Haiti are assessing shelter, safe water, food and other needs.
