As Hurricane Melissa swept through the Caribbean with historic Category 5 winds, communities across Jamaica faced life-threatening flooding, severe storm surge, and devastating rainfall. With winds reaching 185 mph, Melissa became one of the strongest storms the region has ever experienced. While the storm has passed, the road to recovery is far from over.
Operation USA has stood with Jamaican communities since the 1980s, and we are here once again -working closely with trusted local partners to assess urgent needs and support long-term recovery. When headlines fade, the hardest work begins: rebuilding homes, schools, livelihoods, and essential infrastructure.
Hurricane Melissa left many communities without clean water, medical supplies, and basic safety resources. To address these immediate needs, Operation USA has already deployed emergency relief through two grants:
Our first Hurricane Melissa relief grant to Integrative Clinics International focuses on critical, life-saving needs, including:
In late October, Hurricane Melissa also devastated Haiti, a country already facing an ongoing humanitarian crisis. To support recovery efforts, Operation USA made an emergency grant to Haiti Clinic, a Cité Soleil–based organization serving communities in Port-au-Prince – one of the most flood-ravaged and crisis-affected areas.
We are deeply grateful for the clinic’s unwavering commitment to keeping its doors open despite relentless instability, and for their critical work supporting families during this compounded emergency.
Your gift supports ongoing recovery efforts in Jamaica and Haiti, ensuring communities receive sustained support in the months ahead. Operation USA operates lean so your dollars go further—reaching people when they need it most.
