Texas Flash Floods

Over the July 3 and 4 weekend, torrential downpours triggered catastrophic flooding across Central Texas as the Colorado and Guadalupe rivers rapidly rose and overflowed their banks. In just three hours, the Guadalupe surged more than 20 feet, from 10 cubic feet per second to over 120,000, causing widespread devastation across Austin, San Antonio, and surrounding counties.

As of July 14, at least 132 people, including 36 children, have lost their lives, with more than 160 others still missing. Communities in Burnet, Williamson, Travis, Kendall, and Kerr Counties have been among the hardest hit. Kerr County, in particular, suffered a tragic loss when 27 campers and counselors from Camp Mystic perished in the floodwaters.

Search and recovery operations are ongoing as local authorities, nonprofits, and community leaders work tirelessly to provide shelter, food, and medical support to affected families. Operation USA is coordinating with regional partners to identify evolving needs and ensure both immediate relief and long-term recovery support reach those most impacted.

In the immediate phase, key needs include:
• Temporary and transitional shelter and housing
• Food, clothing, and hygiene supplies
• Replacement medications and medical support
• Cleaning supplies and cash assistance

In the long-term recovery phase, priorities will shift toward:
• Rebuilding homes and community infrastructure
• Ongoing mental health and medical care
• Social and legal services for affected families
• Livelihood restoration and small business support

With generous support from Honeywell, Operation USA directed $250,000 in grants to experienced local partners across Texas, including:

• The San Antonio Food Bank
• Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country
• Kerrville Area Chamber of Commerce Foundation
• Texas Children’s Central Texas Hope Fund

With over four decades of experience in disaster relief, Operation USA remains committed to supporting Texas communities as they recover, rebuild, and restore hope in the wake of this devastating event.
